What a day

Wow, what a day.  Lylah has been sick now for about 4 days.  I stayed home the first day, Shannon stayed home the second.  I stayed home the third, and now I will be staying home a 4th day tomorrow.  Today hasn't been too hectic, but got a little crazy around

And pretty much anything that could have gone awry has for the past 3 hours.  From end to beginning, I just picked up one of my dogs giant craps on the floor of my house, despite letting her outside no more than 10 minutes ago.  Lylah was very squirmy while eating tonight.  Before that, she spilled my giant cup of water that I had just filled.  Before that, I forgot her diaper bag when we went to the doctors office.  She was supposed to eat around 4:30, but since I didn't have her food with me, she didn't eat until we got home about 5:45.

I have just become so irritated today with all this craziness.  Anyhow, I did take her to the doctor and she tested positive for bronchialitis

Bronchiolitis is swelling and mucus buildup in the smallest air passages in the lungs (bronchioles), usually due to a viral infection.

Causes, incidence, and risk factors

Bronchiolitis usually affects children under the age of 2, with a peak age of 3 - 6 months. It is a common, and sometimes severe illness. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most common cause. More than half of all infants are exposed to this virus by their first birthday.

Apparently, Lauren Hounshell's daughter had this too recently.

So, all in all having a baby has really been a roller coaster of extremes.  I have experienced extreme joy and somewhat extreme heartbreaks (when I feel bad because she feels bad).  The joys have far outweighed any negatives, and I don't want to take for granted her health and well being (knock on wood).  You hear about so many children out there with cancer, or diabetes, or some muscular disease, etc.  Yes my little girl has gotten sick here and there, but I am thankful for her overall health.

Money is becoming a significant factor in raising Lylah as well.  Yes, we wanted the educational daycare for her, and the safe car to travel in with her.  And yes we have been able to afford those things without a huge problem.  The unforseen has been kicking our butt.  It's the $800 car repair 3 weeks ago.  The medical bills are rolling in weekly between the 3 of us, weather changes, tootheaches, etc.  Shannon just had a $500 dental bill (even though we have dental insurance).  Down the road soon, she is consulting with an oral surgeon.  Plane tickets to Atlanta for Christmas, a dog sitter for when we are gone.  $1000 homeowners dues.  I mean, we make a decent salary, but we are getting slammed.  My mom would say, "Yep, that's life."  The credit card companies are loving us right now.  No wonder we have a good credit score.  We will end up paying them back as soon as we can.

I would be more than happy to report that we were able to cover these things from our savings account, but we haven't been able to build up a positive savings account much since our wedding.  We have gotten it to a decent level, but then again, plummeted by bills and such.  Anyhow, I am being honest with myself when it comes to this and looking at every nick and cranny to cover our butt.  It sounds bad, but we aren't in major trouble, yet.  We are going to just have to re-prioritize soon and scrutinize our budget further.  Hopefully taxes won't slam us this year.  They should be a little more moderate due to child credit and daycare costs deduction.

Ok, feeling much better now that I have gotten that all out into the universe.  Lylah is still amazing at the end of the day.  We do all of this for her and money is a very small factor in the grand scheme of things.  In fact, when I look into her eyes and she smiles real big, how much do you think money is a concern to me in that moment?  The answer is zero.  :-)

Lylah laughing when younger

This is Ly laughing when she was a little bit younger!

This is a video of Lylah just standing and moving around a bit.

Baby girl has a cold. . .again!

Lylah has a cold again.  It started developing last night about 9 pm with a cough.  This morning we took her temp, and it seemed fine.  When I brought her home from daycare today she felt warm.  After taking her temp., she was runinng 101.6 from her bum bum.  She still is coughing and obviously not herself.

She still played a little bit around the house, but her eyes were pink and watery, and her nose was running.  Shannon gave her some tylenol for babies, and she got to feeling even a little better after that.

When we put on the music CD that they gave us from her infant class at school, she started dance!  When "If you're happy and you know it" she started clapping a lot!  Apparently, she really likes that song!  Oh, and we are trying to get her to say 'mama.'  She has said it a couple of times, but not consistently.

Yesterday I tried to upload a video onto blogger.  I need to go see if it is working.  Lylah's in bed now. I am taking tomorrow off work to coddle her and be a good daddy.

Lylah is making a lot of progress!

It's time to update everyone on our little Lylah bug!  She has made some real progress since I last updated the page.  She is now able to balance on her own for 30-60 seconds and it's very cool!  She just stands there on her own two feet.  Sometimes she rocks back and forth a bit, but I can tell she is pretty proud of herself.

When she is not standing, she is generally crawling very quickly.  We have to really watch her now because she crawls so fast!  When you put her on the ground it's immediate acceleration!  She likes to laugh at the dogs pretty often, and Shannon and I are still in love with her smile!

On another positive note, her spitting up has gotten a little bit better lately.  It still seems to be pretty bad at daycare, but generally is good for us when she is home!  Also at daycare, she generally only takes one nap per day, so by the end of the afternoon, she is pretty tired.

We take her on a walk daily!  Here is a great picture of her and Shannon just before our walk today!

Lylah's getting bigger!

Today, Lylah skyped with Nana!  She had a lot of fun and talked a little bit!  Nana noticed her bottom teeth coming in.  Notice the position lylah is at.  She is standing up and holding on to the coffee table. She was able to stand for about 10 minutes and hang with Nana before she got distracted!  Then, she crawled around a little bit, but ended up back at the table standing again!

This weekend, Shannon and I were busy with choir activities.  We had Julie Kelsey come and babysit for us!  It was great seeing Julie and she did a great job!  And we were very glad to have her here to help us!

Lylah is eating solid foods 2 times per day now!  And she will probably start eating solid foods 3 times a day soon!  Next week, the Elko's will help take care of Lylah because Shannon and I will be celebrating her birthday!  We will be going to a concert of one of Shannon's favorite singers!  This will be her first "real concert."  I mean, we have been to classical music concerts, but we have never been to any pop music artists.  We are pretty excited!

Lylah is close to walking.  She is able to balance herself while standing for about 5 minutes!  We think that she will be walking by Christmas time.

Pretty much on auto pilot

So, now Lylah is really cruising along and developing very well! Her curiosity is higher than ever and she has crawling down to an art. Every day she gets prettier, and more exciting. If you are lucky, you get a big smile from her and maybe even a big (but slobbery) kiss! At daycare, she apparently loves playing with friends, reading time, and music.
By the time Christmas rolls around this year, she will be 10 months old! When they say hat time flies, they really mean it! I know that Ly will be learning to drive in the blink of an eye; however, she will be learning to drive in modest clothing and not stockholder around boys, obviously. But, we will cross that bridge when we get to it. :)
